Fairtrade Original is an organisation and brand with a mission to join forces to achieve a living income for farmers. They work on this by developing fair trade chains, in which ingredients are processed locally into delicious products that find eager demand in Europe.

Fairtrade Original approached Food By Design with the question: How can we fill our innovation pipeline with flavourful products that match our brand and generate additional income for farmers in Africa, Asia, and Latin America?

Our approach:

  • Creation of an engaging food trend presentation on the changing eating and cooking habits of today’s consumers in the near future
  • Formulation and exploration of seven possible growth domains
  • Selection of the three most promising growth domains
  • Ideation of product ideas and selection of best ideas
  • Development and detailing of selected ideas
  • Roadmapping of ideas for a well-filled innovation funnel for the next 3 years

Working with Food By Design was super inspiring. They have thorough knowledge and expertise in the area of global food trends which is a great springboard to formulate relevant innovation domains and to come to new and promising product ideas.
